Jane Hink has offered 7 classes in oil and acrylic painting to Villagers. Now she is starting again with a beginning class. If you have always wanted to paint California landscapes or seascapes in traditional oil painting or in the plastic-y acrylic paint, join this class on Tuesdays in May and June. The class will be in the Art Room in Cribari Center from 10 am until 12:30 pm from May 15 until June 19. The cost is $60.
Jane will teach the basics of how to choose and mix colors and how to apply the paint. She will teach composition by example and demonstrations. Students learn about applying color in threes, about the Golden Mean, and the Center of Interest. Harmony and balance are also important topics. Students start out by copying a landscape from Jane, section by section. In the next class, they bring their own photos and begin creating their own art work.
Students may use either oil or acrylic. Jane will demonstrate in both oil and acrylic in alternate classes.
Particular individual assistance and critique are offered after each demonstration.
Participants should bring their own brushes, paints and canvases. Brushes should be one small, one medium and one large made for oil and acrylic painting. Acrylic colors can be Liquitex tubes, $4.99 at Michael's with 20% off:
cadmium yellow,
yellow ochre,
cadmium red,
ultramarine blue,
burnt sienna and
Payne's grey.
An 11 by 14 canvas panel, which is less than $2 at Michael's, is the painting surface necessary, 2 or 3 are needed.
Books on oil or acrylic painting are available in the Arts & Crafts library.
