Encaustic

“Splash!" Workshop Materials List

Drawing tools:

• 1 - 3 Bold/bright colored pencil of you choosing. (NOT water-soluble, NOT yellow, white or black)

• White eraser

• 2H graphite pencil

Color: I will be supplying all Private Reserve inks for the workshop

• Opaque white gouache (not Zinc white). We will be using a minimal amount of this so

you and a friend can share to save on cost.

Brushes: Synthetic is fine. These are the sizes I will be working with but if you have

something similar that is alright too.

• 1 Wash brush: 1 1/2 “ or 2” (inexpensive Hake brushes are OK, however expect to

pick hairs out of your painting!)

• 2 Rounds that come to a nice point when wet: #4 & #10 or larger

Painting surfaces:

• Watercolor paper: 2 full sheets (22” x 30”) 140lb cold press. Our projects will be cut to size from these papers (see diagram below) These sizes do not need to be exact so if you have a watercolor pad or block that is close in size that will be fine too. Student grade OK. Feel free to bring any extra watercolor practice paper if you like.

• Drawing board to accommodate 15” x 22” (drawing tote board, gator foam, foam core, “The Incredible Art Board” all ok). This is only required if you prefer drawing upright as opposed to flat on a table. It is also handy for dripping and gravity techniques.

Other materials:

• Spray bottle

• Rubber gloves to protect your hands

• Palette with at least 6 large/deep wells.

Plastic “Mochi” snack containers work well.

• At least 1 BIG water bucket. We will be

changing water constantly!

• Paper towels

• Pencil sharpener

• Salt
